RAN Orchestration & SMO Solution Designer / Technical Coordinator (f/m)

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced RAN Orchestration & SMO Solution Designer / Technical Coordinator to join our dynamic team. This pivotal role involves bridging the gap between the operational needs of our National Companies (NatCos) and our agile development teams, translating complex business requirements into actionable technical designs for our RAN Domain Orchestration (DO) and Service Management & Orchestration (SMO) solutions. You will play a crucial part in shaping the future of our network automation and efficiency across multiple European markets.


What You'll Do

  • Requirement Engineering & Stakeholder Management:Gather, analyze, and prioritize user needs from diverse NatCo stakeholders, understanding their criticality and impact. Act as a primary interface, navigating differing technical viewpoints and ensuring transparent communication between operational engineers and development teams.
  • Solution Design & Architecture:Work closely with architecture and development teams to define, document, and clarify detailed technical requirements. This includes defining data inputs/outputs, UI/API behaviors, mapping existing Element Management System (EMS) functionalities to future orchestration platforms, and designing policies via YANG/templates.
  • Project Facilitation & Coordination:Participate in planning sessions (e.g., SAFe Product Increments), manage scope, and facilitate transparent communication regarding delivery expectations and constraints. Ensure requirements are effectively mapped to development epics and provide clarifications to the development team.
  • Technical Guidance & Validation:Contribute to the detailed design of new components, processes, user interfaces, and integration interfaces. Support the testing and configuration of policies to ensure solutions align with business expectations and operational realities.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:Participate in joint requirement and architecture definition teams with TDG to ensure an 80% commonality in features across NatCos, balancing local needs with strategic architectural alignment.

What You'll Bring

  • RAN Expertise:Strong knowledge of 2G/4G/5G RAN architectures, including NSA/SA deployments, interworking, and evolution paths. Familiarity with SRAN & ORAN components (BTS, eNB, gNB, RU, DU, CU, BBU) and fundamental radio network concepts.
  • RAN Configuration & Optimization:Experience in RAN configuration management across multi-vendor environments (e.g., Ericsson ENM, NetAct, MAE). Understanding of RAN planning, optimization, and modernization initiatives, including Open-RAN, energy efficiency, and automation.
  • Orchestration & SMO Concepts:Knowledge of automated and closed-loop RAN optimization concepts, including orchestration platforms like RDO/SMO and their components (e.g., non-RT RIC).
  • Stakeholder & Communication Skills:Proven ability to manage demanding stakeholders, navigate pushback, align technical viewpoints, and handle conflict diplomatically. Clear, structured, and pragmatic communication style, comfortable in multi-cultural environments.
  • Agile Methodologies:Familiarity with Agile frameworks (e.g., SAFe, Product Increments, Epics, User Stories, Jira) and the ability to adapt to structured development processes.
  • Hands-On Attitude:2+ years of experience in network engineering, system operations, or a related technical role, with a desire to maintain a hands-on technical design element in your work.

Even Better If You Have

  • Automation & Cloud:Basic understanding of agentic AI/LLM concepts, cloudification (e.g., Kubernetes, virtualization), CI/CD, or workflow automation.
  • OSS Architecture:Familiarity with OSS architecture concepts (e.g., service order management, configuration, inventory, TM Forum ODA or eTOM).
  • Policy Design:Experience with YANG/templates for policy configuration and automation.
  • Tooling:Familiarity with modern software lifecycle management tools beyond basic project management (e.g., Confluence, CI/CD pipelines).

Regular travel to European NatCos and developer hubs (approx. 4-5 times a year) is part of the role.
